The Australian Federal Government is going to launch a national obesity plan.In Western Australia, the National Rural Health Alliance is concerned that the needs of children in remote communities may have their needs ignored.A national food plan to try to improve food security and manufacturing is being undertaken by the Australian Government. In rural and remote parts of Australia, there is less access to fresh fruit and vegetables and there may not be safe places to exercise. It is difficult eating a healthy diet in some remote areas.
A lot of focus has been put on talking about having curfew hours for remote community children to try to keep them out of the towns malls at night.
I believe the governments should be looking at why these children are hanging around a town and getting insufficient exercise.
If they were provided with good bike tracks and shady places to play and exercise and the incentive to do so, this would become a healthy habit."
