Reclaiming Fitness in Your Seventies

Picture
Today in my creative arts studio and garden.
I have seven two metres long by one meter wide, by 40 cm high garden bed sent up in full sunshine where I can move along the row, moving a light-weight plastic chair along with me to enable me to do my garden while seated. That is kind to my joints, the knees and back are no longer fit for bending or kneeling, and the seated gardening allows me to get my Vitamin D naturally in the sunshine while getting about as much aerobic exercise as I'm fit for these days. Plus, I love it. Growing my vegetable and flowers gives me an enormous buzz from life.  Today, I'm looking at catalogues, considering converting more of my garden to raised garden beds.

A  Blast From the Past. - Working on Fitness in my Sixties.

On Tuesday and Thursday, I used the caravan steps and my adjustable weights to do three lots of 50 step ups.  I then use the weights to do a range of three lots of ten exercises that I learned from the Osteoporosis Association of Australia,  I then went for intermittent power walking and sprinting or a 400-meter jog alongside the Tarra River.

On Monday, Wednesday and Saturday I do my Cardio Workouts using my Wii, Biggest Loser, Interactive, full body workout and on Friday, I do my Yoga exercises. I do some walk running six days a week and also my stretches.

I do not always have a place as beautiful as Tarra Valley to workout in (last week it was beach runs),  but while I have it I just have to share the beauty and inspiration of the place

I think it was Kurt Vonnegut who said, "Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone.

I love your comment, Margaret. :-)
I don't run these days, but swimming, and later on running, all be int slow running, did rebuilt my aerobic fitness. I don't do either in my seventies. Walking, and sit down bend and stretch gardening. I don't bend to the ground nor kneel any more. But, sharing what i did in my early sixties, when I could. :-) It got me fit for climbing easy mountains which I loved.
Cheers, Ryn.

As soon as I get this move over with, I'll be going over to my daughters house a couple of days a week to walk around in her pool. Can't swim anymore, but the water gives some nice, safe resistance. Right now I'm getting my exercise from packing and lifting and walking back and forth between houses.

I'll join you in spirit in the pool, Margaret.

I enrolled in the hydrotherapy pool sessions at the gym last summer, and I'm not going. I found it 'too much.' But now that I'm mastering sit down gardening and getting quite a bit of aerobic activity from the stretching and physical work, I'm hoping I'll be able to extend this to the pool (same and you plan—walking) soon. :-)
I wasn't able to prune my roses last year, and this year I've pruned twelve of them in two days. It's great to see physical milestones achieved.
Your needing to pack and move contents from a house is a mammoth task. Quite an achievement to be proud of once the work is done.

Cheers, Ryn.
