Hello everyone, welcome to my YouTube channel. Today, I am excited to share my thoughts on the book "The Thursday Murder Club" by Richard Osman. As a septuagenarian, I have read my fair share of mystery novels over the years, and I was intrigued to see what this book had in store for me. First, let me give you a brief summary of the book. "The Thursday Murder Club" follows a group of retirees who meet every Thursday to discuss unsolved crimes. When a murder takes place in their retirement village, they use their expertise to try and solve the case. The book is full of twists and turns, and it keeps you guessing until the very end. Now, on to my review. I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were well-developed, and I found myself invested in their storylines. The plot was intricate, and it kept me engaged throughout the entire book. The humor sprinkled throughout the story was also a nice touch, but I am a hard person to amuse, as I did not find the behaviour of older adults funny. Quite the reverse, I thought it realistic. I don't laugh an people my age. Maybe ageism is at play if you find the sleuths extremely funny. What I appreciated most about this book was the fact that it highlighted the value of experience and wisdom. The members of the Thursday Murder Club were all retired, but their expertise in their respective fields proved to be invaluable when it came to solving the crime. As a septuagenarian myself, it was refreshing to see older adults portrayed in a positive light, and I think this book could inspire readers of all ages to embrace their life experiences and use them to their advantage. Overall, I would highly recommend "The Thursday Murder Club" to anyone who enjoys a good mystery novel. It was a fun and engaging read, and I think it has something to offer readers of all ages. Ingredients: Purchase meat when it is at it's best seasonal price. Consider off cuts rather than a prime display rack of lamb. 1 small boneless lamb shoulder or leg, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 large onion, diced 3 garlic cloves, minced 1 teaspoon paprika 1 teaspoon cumin 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon turmeric 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper Salt and pepper to taste 1 tablespoon olive oil 1/2 cup water or chicken broth 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes 1/4 cup chopped cilantro (optional) Instructions: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pan and cook until the onion is translucent. Add the lamb to the pan and cook until browned on all sides. Stir in the spices (paprika, cumin, cinnamon, turmeric, and cayenne pepper) and season with salt and pepper to taste. Pour in the water or chicken broth and add the chopped tomatoes. Cover the skillet with a lid and reduce the heat to low. Let the lamb simmer for 30-40 minutes or until the meat is tender and the sauce has thickened. Stir in the chopped cilantro (optional) and serve over a bed of steaming rice or with a side of crusty bread. This recipe is simple, affordable, and perfect for a weeknight dinner for one. The spices add depth and flavor to the lamb, and the tomatoes and cilantro add freshness. This dish is also versatile and can be adjusted to your taste preferences.
